International Companion Animal Welfare Conference
North Shore Animal League International have been co-founders and co-organisers of the International Companion Animal Welfare Conference.
The History of the ICAWC
There are and always have been many cries for help from a large number of animal welfare groups all over the globe. North Shore Animal League (NSALI) started its international activities in the early 90's in response to these calls for help. Dogs Trust likewise began its activities outside of the UK in the early 90's, following a visit to Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic.
Roger Weeks the Executive Director of NSALI and Clarissa Baldwin, the Executive Director of Dogs Trust met through mutual contacts in London and discovered that they both held similar views on assisting other groups throughout Europe. Both had ascertained that working in animal welfare can be a very isolated and lonely experience, especially if you come from a country where animal welfare is not a priority to the government. So the idea for a conference where likeminded people could meet, network, make invaluable contacts and gain the advice and support needed was born.
